When going about your hair care routine, it’s very easy to only focus on your hair’s condition. After all, we spend so much time shampooing, conditioning, slathering and spraying products into our hair, that many don’t consider their scalp health, despite the fact that its health and the follicles it homes directly affect hair quality. As such, scalp massages can be incorporated, to better nurture the scalp and improve hair benefits.
• It enhances proper blood circulation
Just like in a regular massage, consistent rubbing promotes blood flow and oxygen to said area – this is no different in the scalp and so this extra stimulation encourages a healthier, richer scalp environment, and even hair growth as the hair shafts are properly nourished.
• It promotes hair growth
A study in 2020 found that when women with chemotherapy-induced Alopecia received scalp massages, researchers found that hair growth “significantly improved”. In addition to this, a study from 2019 in which 340 participants would give themselves scalp massages twice a day, found that 69% reported that their recovery from alopecia had improved.
• Better absorption of products
When you apply products and take the time to massage them properly, you essentially ensure that the scalp is entirely coated in a uniform manner and so the scalp is able to absorb the benefits more effectively. Peppermint and lavender oils have been found to be especially nourishing for hair health, and so massaging with the use of these would do some good.
• Enhanced stress relief
Scalp massages release endorphins and relax the scalp as well as muscles in the neck. It brings on a sense of calming and reduces tension within the face as well. As we all know, stress can harm hair follicles and cause shedding – and so by incorporating scalp massages, you can help counteract these.
At the end of the day, remaining consistent with scalp massages is what yields results – ensure you’re not rough with your hair strands as being so can cause tangles. We’re sure that if you’re gentle with your scalp, the benefits will surely follow.
